Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about our guides, if you have any questions that are not covered on the website, please use the contact us option in the menu bar above.

Are your guides accurate

Our "Becoming a courier" guide has been written using not only our experience but that of couriers who have been in the industry for many years, we feel it is the most comprehensive guide of its kind. It covers everything in step by step form, from setting up a home office through to return networks, subcontracting, advertising, vehicles, insurance and much much more. With other sites you buy a book and they expect you to get on with it, not only is access to our manuals cheaper than other websites, we also provide you with additional guides that will help you grow your new business should you decide to start as a freelance courier. We also offer a money back guarantee if you find a service that offers better value for money !!!

How likely am I to get work

This depends on a number of things, your location, your vehicle size and how much effort you are willing to put in to your business. Our guides are designed to help you obtain as much or as little business as you want, we not only show you how to market your new company to direct customers, but tell you how you can pick up work from other couriers in your area. We also show you how to use the return networks to maximise your earning potential, the key to gaining customers is by getting yourself known as a professional and reliable company, our guides will show you how image and presentation is key.

How much can I earn

Again this depends on how hard you want to work, but the more effort you put in the more you will get out of it. The following is a realistic idea of what you can expect to earn per job, the figures are based on being paid one way, no courier company charges for returning to base, don't be mislead by what other sites tell you, they are wrong.

Job Details Direct Customer Hotshot Backload
London - Bristol £100.30 £64.90 £41.30
Edinburgh- Liverpool £187.00 £121.00 £77.00
Manchester - Oxford £131.75 £85.25 £54.25
Leeds - Milton Keynes £124.00 £80.30 £51.10
Birmingham - Plymouth £169.15 £109.45 £69.65
Cardiff - Ipswich £203.15 £131.45 £83.65
Sheffield - Watford £128.35 £83.05 £52.85
Glasgow - Newcastle £127.50 £82.50 £52.50

The above is based on a small car/van PLM (per loaded mile)i.e. what you are actually paid to deliver the consignment, Hotshot and Backload are terms that are used on the "return networks" these are the prices you would normally charge other couriers to do work on their behalf. This is what you could get to return to your home area, we explain more on the return networks and how to use them to your advantage to cut out dead mileage in our guides. These prices are calculated at our current rates (yes this is what we actually charge).

Do I have to own a van

The short answer is no, most freelance couriers start out using their own vehicle, this means that you can keep your start up costs to a minimum. We cover in detail all about using your own vehicle, purchasing vans, being as economical as possible and what insurances you will need to operate legally as a freelance courier in our guides.

Will this work in my area

Couriers run all over the country, from delivering computer components to blue chip companies in major towns and cities, to farm equipment and important documents for people working from home. The chances are that there is an immediate requirement for a reliable and professional service in your area right now !!

Can I start part time

Yes, in fact we recommend that you start part time to test the water properly before you hand in your notice, if you work Monday to Friday you can contact local couriers in your area to pick up weekend work, this is a good way to start out as larger courier companies are always looking for weekend staff to work when they need them.

How do I order your guides

You can order by clicking the "Buy Now" button on this or any of the pages on this website, we use Paypal as our service partner. How does your guide compare to others

You have probably seen other guides promising the world and making exaggerated claims of earning potential, we are not going to compare ourselves to these other guides because our guide is in a league of it's own. We also hope that you have read enough of our site to realise that we want you to succeed in your new venture. We don't just sell a book unlike some other websites that take your money and let you get on with it, we offer the tools and ongoing support you will need to build your new business, remember our guides and this site has been written and designed by actual couriers and marketing experts, and our guides are just one of the many services we offer to the Courier industry.
